Subject: Additional GPIO's
Hi all

My first KFlop is on the way :-)

If the digital I/O's are not enough (for a future project), what would be a good way to extend the GPIO's ?

1. Just add external PLC
2. SoftSPS on same PC some weird imagine...KFlop sends it out and the softsps get it back on the PC...just a joke...
3. Second KFlop communicating over UART
4. ???

Thanks
Best regards
martin

Hi Martin,

There are many possibilities.  What type of IO would you require?

But besides adding our Option cards like Kanalog you would need to write a User C Program to use serial or parallel communication to some other device.  KFLOP has 1024 virtual IO bits intended for this purpose.

We also had a discussion in a previous thread about using Kanalog's 8 opto inputs and 8 opto outputs to multiplex up to 64 switches.

TK

Tom,

I just need many NORMAL/STANDARD digital inputs and outputs, which i can use for standard logic and some i need access from within the HMI...

For example, my big machineCenter Center has 30 vacuum plates 100mmx300mm in 3 rows 10 per row (2 rows are movable (sorry english is not my main))

row 1 ----------
row 2 ----------
row 3 ---------- (this, the first from the machine front is fix)

the other 2 rows i can move away until 1300mm on linear rails by motors.
every individual vacuum plate from the 30 has a pneumatic zylinder to lift the plate 20mm
and for every plate is a magnet valve for vacuum enable/disable.

The purpose is to have a very heavy and stable vacuumtable which is very flexible in size and because of lift each of the individual small vacuumtable you can mill around the workpiece, without hit other tables.

Each Row gets the vacuum from a separate valve from a big vacuum vessel....

So you can see a lot of inputs for the vacuumtable only....
Every plate is associated with a M command, so you can lift a certain pattern by G.Code by cnc programm.

Even i use 2 KFlop/KAnalog synchroniced by UART (if that will work) , i need more inputs/outputs.

So i would need raw lots of digital I/O...

regards
martin

Hello Martin,

I have been testing with these recently::

http://www.tri-plc.com/fmd1616-10.htm

They are not badly priced, support Modbus(ascii,RTU and TCP) plus have a web interface for nice debugging.

That FMD1616 has 16 ins and outs which can support the high voltages your machine likely requires.

They  are all opto-isolated as well which is nice.

If you need more IO, you can add their EXP4040 (I think you can add at least two) .

IT has 40 inputs and 40 outputs.

So far, It is proving to be a quality component.

Too bad Dyno doesn’t make one of these…..
